Em Inglaterra vai estrear-se um serviço de download de música em 2007, que permite aos utilizadores aceder e comprar a música que toca na rádio em tempo real. O serviço começa por estar disponível para a cidade de Londres e vai alargar-se ao resto do país em meados do próximo ano.
O CEO da empresa que desenvolveu o serviço, Simon Cole afirmou que “we know there is a demand for DMD, our trial this summer demonstrated this, the logistics of delivery are almost finalized, and I am delighted that we have now got every key player in the radio and music industry on board to ensure the successful launch of the service next year. This is digital radio’s killer application”.
Muito interessante é a sua opinião sobre o financiamento da rádio: “Anybody who believes that advertising on its own is going to support the future of the radio industry is living in cloud cuckoo land. Radio listening is actually at its strongest ever. More 15 to 24 year olds are listening to commercial radio at the moment than have ever done before, but radio revenue is not rising to sustain the development.”
